O Brasil sediará a Pré-Conferência das Américas e Caribe no período de 24 a 26 de maio, no Hotel Pestana, em Salvador (BA). O evento, que precede a Conferência Mundial de Juventude, agendada para o mês de agosto, no México, está sendo organizado pela Secretaria Nacional de Juventude, vinculada à Secretaria-Geral da Presidência da República, com o apoio do governo da Bahia e das Agências do Sistema ONU. Cerca de 230 pessoas devem participar do encontro, entre delegados, observadores, palestrantes e convidados.
As etapas preparatórias são realizadas em nível continental, a exemplo do encontro de Salvador, que deve reunir representantes de 36 países da América e do Caribe. A exemplo do encontro mundial, que será realizado na cidade mexicana de Monterrey, a Pré-Conferência é composta por três Foros: o Foro de Governos, da Sociedade Civil e de Parlamentares, que irão discutir e aprovar uma declaração conjunta que será levada à Conferência do México. A Pré-Conferência será também uma oportunidade para a troca de informações e experiências sobre o tema entre os governos e sociedade civil dos respectivos países.
Segundo os organizadores, participarão até cinco delegados por país, sendo que os representantes de governo serão indicados pelos organismos governamentais de cada país e os parlamentares serão convidados pelo Congresso Nacional mexicano. Já as organizações da sociedade civil interessadas no encontro deverão se inscrever por meio do site www.youth2010.org até o próximo dia 30 de abril. No caso do Brasil, a seleção será feita pelo Conselho Nacional de Juventude (Conjuve) entre os inscritos. Nos demais países, o Comitê Internacional selecionará as organizações participantes da Pré-Conferência.
É importante ressaltar que a Pré-Conferência está sendo organizada pelo Brasil a pedido do governo mexicano, o que ratifica o esforço que o governo brasileiro tem feito para consolidar uma política juvenil que assegure efetivamente os direitos dos jovens e crie oportunidades para que estes exerçam um papel de destaque nos projetos prioritários do país.
