A Universidade, que ficará em Redenção, atenderá 5 mil estudantes entre brasileiros e universitários de toda a Comunidade dos Países de Língua Portuguesa.
O presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva sancionou nesta terça-feira (20), em Brasília, a Lei que cria a Universidade da Integração Internacional da Lusofonia Afro-brasileira (Unilab), que será instalada no município de Redenção, no Ceará. O equipamento fortalecerá o ensino superior federal no Estado, que contava até então com apenas a Universidade Federal do Ceará (UFC). O Governo do Estado foi o responsável por ceder o terreno para a construção da Universidade e, em parceria com o município de Redenção, está recuperando um prédio que funcionará como sede provisória. A Universidade já começa a receber estudantes para os cursos de Enfermagem, Formação de Professores, Gestão Pública, Agronomia e Engenharia de Energia no ano que vem.
Além de garantir ensino superior em diversos cursos para jovens brasileiros, a Unilab também garantirá o intercâmbio com universitários de toda a Comunidade dos Países de Língua Portuguesa (CPLP): Portugal, Angola, Brasil, Cabo Verde, Guiné-Bissau, São Tomé e Príncipe, Moçambique e Timor Leste. No primeiro ano de funcionamento, a Unilab receberá 350 alunos e a meta da instituição é, no futuro, contar com cinco mil estudantes nos cursos de graduação, mestrado e doutorado. Para acesso à Unilab, será utilizada a nota no Exame Nacional do Ensino Médio (Enem)"A criação da Unilab proporcionará além de educação superior e intercâmbio de estudantes de países de língua portuguesa, também contribui para o Brasil pagar uma dívida antiga com o povo africano. Essa dívida não se pode mensurar em dinheiro, mas deve ser paga em solidariedade ecooperação em educação e cultura", afirmou o presidente Lula.
As instalações permanentes da Unilab começarão a ser construídas ainda em 2011, com previsão da entrega dos primeiros prédios ainda no mesmo ano. "É importante que possamos receber bem os estudantes principalmente da África e garantir que eles possam voltar aos seus países
para contribuir para o desenvolvimento de suas nações", ressaltou Lula.
Ainda na mesma solenidade, o Presidente Lula assinou o Estatuto da Igualdade Racial. O documento foi aprovado pelo Congresso no mês passado e prevê garantias e o estabelecimento de políticas públicas de valorização aos negros. Além disso, o Estatuto define ainda uma nova ordem de direitos para os brasileiros negros.
Participaram do evento também os reitores da Unilab, Paulo Speller, da UFC, Jesualdo Farias, a secretária da Educação do Estado, Isolda Cela, e o secretário da Ciência, Tecnologia e Ensino Superior, René Barreira.
